Profs & Pints returns to Woodie Fisher this January to explore the surprising global rise of one of the world’s most beloved foods. The History of Pizza, led by Dr. Carol Helstosky, professor of history at the University of Denver and author of Pizza: A Global History.
Doors open at 5:00 PM, and the talk begins at 6:30 PM. Arrive early to enjoy a drink, a bite, and the warm, welcoming atmosphere of Woodie Fisher before the conversation begins.
About the Talk
Pizza began as a humble, affordable meal for dockworkers in 18th-century Naples — a food once dismissed by visitors as undesirable. So how did it become a global phenomenon, endlessly reinvented by chefs and cultures around the world?
Dr. Helstosky will debunk popular pizza “origin myths” and guide guests on a culinary journey from Italy to the United States and beyond. Along the way, you’ll meet the people, communities, and cultural moments that helped pizza rise to international fame — from Queen Margherita to post–World War II America and the birth of major U.S. pizza chains.
Pizzas, Drinks, and Good Company
Woodie Fisher Kitchen & Bar will be serving pizzas from our menu alongside craft cocktails, local beers, and shareable plates — including Chef Franco’s Pizza Bianca special for the night with roasted garlic, mortadella, mozzarella, and basil.
