About the Talk
Pets are everywhere today—but it wasn’t always that way. In Pets and Their People, historian Ingrid Tague explores how certain animals became beloved members of our households. Drawing on her research in eighteenth-century Britain and her book Animal Companions: Pets and Social Change in Eighteenth-Century Britain, Dr. Tague shows how economic, cultural, and intellectual shifts made pet-keeping widespread, and how our relationships with pets reflect broader debates over class, gender, and morality.
Discover how dogs, cats, and other animals rose to prominence, how attitudes toward animals shaped laws and social norms, and why our love of pets continues to raise complex questions about morality and care.
Drinks, Plates, and Good Company
Woodie Fisher Kitchen & Bar will be serving craft cocktails, local beers, and shareable plates throughout the evening. Enjoy a drink as you settle in for an engaging and thought-provoking discussion.
Please note: While Woodie Fisher is pet-friendly on our patios, this talk takes place indoors and pets are not permitted.
